DUMFRIES, Va. — The procession began at Town Hall and ended at the Dumfries Shopping Center where holiday revelers gathered for a block party.

The annual Dumfries Christmas Parade was held Saturday under the theme “Christmas Past, Present, and Future,” and hundreds of people lined U.S. 1 to see the marching bands, floats, classic cars, and Santa Claus himself.


Nearly 70 years after he earned it, an 88-year-old World War II veteran finally received his Bronze Star for Heroism at a ceremony in Congressman Gerry Connolly’s district office in Fairfax County on Friday.

Washington native and current Prince William County resident John “Jack” Faulconer Jr. was an 18-year-old infantryman assigned to a machine gun squad in Patton’s 3rd Army when he landed on Omaha Beach a few weeks after D-Day in 1944. Subsequently, he was severely wounded in a battle that killed two of his squad members.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Prince William has once again been recognized as one of the best 100 communities in the nation for young people.

America’s Promise Alliance named the growing county of 410,000 people one of the best for the third year in a row. The distinction was given to communities in 42 states, and many more were reviewed.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — E.J. Levenberry is going to San Antonio to play football for the U.S. Army.

The proud and humble senior linebacker at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge was accepted to the Army’s All-American Bowl at a ceremony Thursday afternoon. The bowl is dubbed a premiere sporting event where 90 of the nations top high school football athletes have been invited to compete against each other Jan. 5 in front of a national TV audience on NBC.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — It’s a game of back and forth between the federal government and a local transit agency when it comes to building a new $4.8 million bus maintenance facility.

Last night, officials at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission agreed to have land for a new Westerly Bus Maintenance facility near Manassas re-assessed at the direction of the federal government.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — While a new Potomac Nationals stadium may not be official – leaders in Prince William County are moving ahead with plans to build a parking garage for the planned structure.

A request for $5 million from Virginia’s Transportation Partnership Opportunity Fund is expected to be approved today by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. With this money, construction of a 1,250-space parking garage could begin, and those spaces would serve shoppers at Potomac Town Center at Stonebridge – home to Wegmans grocery store — Potomac Nationals game time fans, and commuters who would park during the day and leave before games begin, officials said.
