MANASSAS, Va. — Prince William County and Manassas residents, as well as representatives from the Virginia Household Water Quality Program kicked off a drinking water clinic in Manassas on Monday night. Well water is not monitored by the Commonwealth of Virginia, so folks with well water must do water quality testing on their own.

“Virginia Tech wants information on well water throughout the state,” explained Thomas Bolles, an Environmental Educator at the Virginia Cooperative Extension. ” We want to get a baseline reading of area water and see what could be coming into area wells. We encourage people to get their wells tested as water quality can change when wells age.”

It’s 50 degrees outside and the sun is shining brilliantly. Fat, yellow Daffodil heads are nodding in a little whisper of breeze. The last remnants of the most recent snow are dripping off the roof and traveling melodically through the downspouts to share water with the Crocus, Tulips and Hellebores that are rising from their sleepy winter mulch beds.

I’m feeling it! I don’t want to write about overcrowded schools or politicians who may not be meeting my expectations. I can’t find it in my head or my heart to opine about builders, developers, roads or transportation. I consider writing about my miserable experience being stuck in traffic last week and missing a luncheon with the League of Women Voters of Virginia, but it’s just impossible to focus on the sad, the bad, or the mad stuff!

STAFFORD, Va. — About 40 Stafford County residents lined up to have their well water tested by the Virginia Cooperative Extension at Virginia Tech.

The testing program will help identify what may be lurking the groundwater in the wells outside their homes, and can provide information on any contaminants that could be making their way to water faucets after being piped through the home. Each participant in to the testing program paid $49, collected water samples from a faucet in their home, and handed over the samples which were then taken to Virginia Tech where they will be examined over the next three weeks.
