After undertaking a major restoration, Mount Vernon has reopened a room in George Washington’s mansion to visitors.

The space was referred to as the “New Room” by the Washingtons. New research, examination and technical analysis have revealed a more accurate history of this prominent entertaining space. The restoration of this room began in January 2013 and just concluded this month. It is based on 160 years of cumulative research. Some of the discoveries made have resulted in significant changes. For instance, little evidence suggests it was used for dining, as previously thought.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — While many on Tuesday wished the snow would stop falling, the Kilareski family enjoyed the winter wonderland.

Back in October the Kilareski children Matt, 9, and Sarah, 7, decided to put off celebrating their birthdays and Christmas until March so that their dad could be home with them explained Carrie Kilareski.

MANASSAS, Va. — The room is covered in canvases, some are black and while, while others are vivid splashes of color. Each wall seems to show portraits of a different time period in the artist’s life.

Todd Sprow will be the first to tell you that art is beautiful, but you suffer during the creation of it.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A woman who was standing next to her car outside Potomac Mills mall was strangled by a man who asked her for directions.

Update

A bus carrying 17 people including its driver was returning to Prince William County after a birthday party in Washington, D.C. early this morning when it was involved in a crash where nine occupants were ejected.

I attended the Prince William Committee of 100 forum on March 20. The topic was the revenue share agreement between Prince William County and Prince William County Schools and the question was posed to a panel to determine if they thought the current revenue share was sufficient or if schools actually require more funding from the county.

The panel was composed of Gainesville District Supervisor, Pete Candland, the owner of intelligencecareers.com and many other job sites, Bill Golden, School Board Chairman Milt Johns, and teacher/student advocate from Bull Run Middle School, Riley O’Casey. Our moderator was David Kinsella, teacher and Vice-President of the Prince William Education Association.
