STAFFORD, Va. — The idea of collecting $1.4 million next year to manage storm water ponds didn’t sit well with Stafford County leaders, so they proposed to collect half as much and sort out the details later.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors set an advertised tax rate of $1.019 for every $100 of assessed property value. Those property taxes on homes largely fund Stafford’s $261.4 million budget for fiscal year 2015 that takes effect July 1.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Stafford is currently considering the options for development of a property on Va. 610 in North Stafford they inherited last year. The church received the land after the passing of two congregation members, Mary Stuart and Frances Cloe.

“Mary Stuart and Frances Cloe were long time members of Ebenezer Church. As I understand it, their parents were some of the founding members of Ebenezer Church,” said Reverend Chris Bennett.

When my eyes flash open in the morning, (They do “flash” open. None of this slow leisurely awakening for me!) A deluge of thoughts pour out. It’s as if, while sleeping, all these thoughts have been dammed up, just waiting for the opportunity to get out there in my conscious world.

Today, as I lurched from sleep, I was already considering the events recently past and the day ahead. There’s no yawning and stretching, no snooze alarm, no snuggling back under the covers or otherwise transitioning into the day. It’s full tilt awareness with a sense of urgency that grabs my body and mind from the sound slumber of a moment before.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Jean Westcott said a Burger King is a place to eat, not a place for high school teens to hang out after class.

The Montclair resident had two children recently graduate from Forest Park High School, next to the Lake Montclair Shopping Center.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Sirens warning of a budget shortfall for Prince William County’s public schools have silenced for now.

School officials told members of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday the advertised tax rate set by the Board – $1.158 per every $100 of assessed property value – would be enough to make up for a $8.7 million in funding the schools thought they would have lost out on in the coming year when new tax estimates came in back in December.

Matt Lausch designed the new fire alarm system that will sound at a new Army medical center that will soon open at Fort Hood, Texas.

He was inspecting that system today at 4:30 p.m. central time when shots rang out on the base. At least 13 people were wounded when an unknown gunman opened fire on them before killing himself, according to initial reports.
