BRISTOW, Va. — A new report identifies Bristoe Station Battlefield, just outside Manassas in Prince William County’s Bristow area, as one of the 11 most endangered historical sites in Virginia.
The Civil War battlefield on Bristow Road just south of Va. 28, coupled with Civil War battlefields in Williamsburg, is being threatened by development, the report notes. Additionally, an 80-acre cemetery threatens the unprotected areas of the Bristoe battlefield.
I recently volunteered with my Lions Club at the winter shelter in Woodbridge. The shelter, located on Potomac Mills Road, is open to homeless men and women for overnight use from November 1 through March 31.
We were at the shelter in May for a Meet and Greet. Our Lions Club brought a Sight and Hearing van and we performed vision and hearing screening for any homeless people who wanted that service.

DALE CITY, Va. — Summer driving season is heating up, and officials fear the number of crashes caused by distracted driving could rise.
Again this year, officials gathered at a rest stop on Interstate 95 in Dale City, at the heart of the 95 Express Lanes construction project where HOV lanes are being converted into toll lanes, to warn drivers about the dangers of texting while driving.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — More headaches for drivers is actually good news for bus riders.
The Prince William Metro Direct buses that run on Saturday between Potomac Mills mall and the Franconia-Springfield Metro station will continue to be free.

MANASSAS, Va. — On April 26. Hugh and Kerry Ickrath of Manassas held an open house at 9300 Prescott Avenue.
The home, which is over 100 years old, was just days away from demolition when the couple and a few investors bought it via short sale last year. Sadly, the home had been deteriorating since the mid 1980s and was eventually boarded up. Ickrath and several neighbors worked tirelessly to save the historic building.

Work on several projects along the thoroughfare linking Interstate 95 with neighborhoods with street names laid out in alphabetical order from Ashdale, Barksdale, to Princedale to name a few, are already underway or about to begin.
