What was the most amazing thing you saw or read on the internet this week? I watched this TED talk. If you are not familiar with TED talks, you definitely should investigate. Videos are produced by a non-profit organization, shared globally, and are intended to both educate and inspire us all in 18 minutes or less.

The video I watched explains Biomechatronics. What’s that, you ask? That, my friends, is something many of us loved more than 35 years ago. The catch phrase; “Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.” became part of our vocabulary for many years. The opening of each episode of the Six Million Dollar Man started with our hero, Steve Austin, a man barely alive.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William County leaders on Tuesday night passed a nearly $989 million budget for fiscal year 2015 that will take effect July 1.

Without knowing how much money they’ll get from Richmond as lawmakers have yet to pass a statewide budget, local leaders set the tax rate at $1.148 per every $100 of assessed property value. The rate is four cents lower than last year’s tax rate, but average tax bills are expected to rise about 4.5%.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — All but one of the town homes in the Gaslight Landing project have been sold.

The Victorian-style homes have popped up along the bank of the Occoquan River in Occoquan over the past 10 years. Construction of the first 10, 3-story homes with complete with a covered parking deck, and some with boat slips to access the river, began in 2006. Many sold at or above $1 million.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — If government jobs go unfilled for more than 500 days are they really “critical” positions?

That question was raised during a marathon session of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors Tuesday as they wrangled over what to fund in the next year’s budget, and how to fund it.

It took two years to complete the dam for the Rocky Pen Run Reservoir, and now the 503-acre lake is filling with water.

The largest public works project in Stafford County’s history, the reservoir will hold 5.5 billion gallons of water. It started to fill in January when officials allowed water to flow into the man-made lake bed.

DUMFRIES, Va. — Dumfries Mayor Jerry Foreman says he’s running for re-election, again.

The sitting official, in a statement released Sunday, said an outpouring of support from those who live in the town encouraged him to re-enter the race prior to the upcoming Election Day on May 6.
