WOODBRIDGE — When it comes to Interstate 95, Ruth Anderson is once again is refusing to apply oil to that proverbial squeaky wheel.

In fact, she’s once again pushing for a fix to I-95, this time to the northbound lanes between Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge and Route 123 at Occoquan.


NORTH STAFFORD — For years, a Rite Aid Pharmacy at Aquia Town Center had an unusual agreement.

It was the only pharmacy allowed to locate in what was one of the busiest shopping centers in Stafford County, located in near the intersection of Routes 1, 610, and Interstate 95 in North Stafford.


WOODBRIDGE — School officials want to send a message to drivers on Prince William Parkway: Slow down.

This fall, the new John D. Jenkins Elementary School will open, located near the busy intersection of the parkway and Hillendale Drive, where a Sheetz gas station sits.


MANASSAS — Customers at Manassas restaurants or breweries could leave the establishment with drinks in hand.

The city has applied for a local special events license that would allow for designated areas to be set up to where people could drink outside, near where they purchased their drink.


FREDERICKSBURG — Officials have decided to renew talks about an outer connector road, an Interstate 95 bypass that would help alleviate congestion.

During a meeting of the Fredericksburg Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), officials set plans for new discussions regarding the long-planned project that dates back to the 1990s.


WOODBRIDGE — There were many questions on Tuesday with few answers, as leaders debated spending up to $600 million on roads and parks projects.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors is expected to vote on Tuesday whether to place on the November ballot two referenda that would permit to borrow the cash.


STAFFORD– The Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of the 2020-2029 Capital Improvement Plan during their June 18 meeting. This year’s CIP includes upgrades to county schools, the county’s courthouse, and transportation.

The Board also included a public safety joint training center in it’s proposed CIP. The public safety joint training center being placed above transportation didn’t sit well with some supervisors. “Our roads are much more important than the planned public safety training center,” Rock Hill District Supervisor Wendy Maurer said.


WOODBRIDGE — Tough Mudder’s first event at Silver Lake Park in Prince William County may have been its last.

Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland asked county staff to explore what it would take to issue a land easement to prevent future athletic events like the Tough Mudder event that occurred two weeks ago.


WOODBRIDGE — A study of the rural area of Prince William County, and how to preserve it, has been collecting dust for five years.

The “Rural Preservation Study” in 2014 attracted residents who live in the western rural area of the county, dubbed the “rural crescent.” Many want to cash out and sell their land to housing developers. The meetings also drew conservationists who, on the opposite end of the spectrum, want to preserve the rural character of the county and leave it as is.


DUMFRIES – The operators of a series of gaming facilities in Virginia now has its eye on Dumfries.

The Colonial Downs Group announced the acceptance of paperwork by the  Prince William County Clerk of the Court to begin the process of a Town of Dumfries voter referendum to allow a satellite wagering facility in accordance with a state code of Virginia.
