Hal Parrish II is hanging up the mayor’s sash at the end of the year. The three-term Manassas City mayor announced he won’t seek reelection this fall.

Parrish gathered a group of about 25 people — mostly family, friends, and fellow city council members — Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Okras restaurant in Downtown Manassas. While there, he went around the room recognizing each person, praising them individually, and then announced his retirement, sources told Potomac Local News.


Prince William County Public Schools officials are monitoring the coronavirus outbreak.

“Prince William County Schools staff are closely monitoring the situation and a collaborative working group is developing specific plans in the event any changes to school operations are required. Additional guidance will be provided as developed and as necessary,” a school division press release states.

When officials decided to start school three weeks before Labor Day, there were some concerns students riding buses to and from school would be sweating due to a lack of air conditioning.

Some cafeteria workers inside the schools also labor without air conditioning. It’s a problem, after all, as temperatures in mid-August can sweltering.


For years, pleasure boat owners have found a safe tax harbor in Prince Willam County.

They’ve docked their boats there, in part, because the personal property tax rate on boats, trailers, and other recreational vehicles has been so low — $0.0001 per $100 of assessed value


Some businesses make it a point to pay their local taxes, while some others don’t. And it’s those businesses who don’t that have city leaders up in arms.

The Manassas City Council on Monday voted 4-1 to change the way penalties are assessed on those who pay their property taxes late. The city has been charging 10% of the total amount owed if the tax is paid one day late.
