MANASSAS — Some of them like working with the K9 dogs. Others like riding in the cruiser in a simulated police pursuit.
All of them are rising 9th-grade students headed to Osbourn High School in Manassas this fall. But they’re spending part of their summer with the city’s finest at the annual Youth Police Camp.

Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters responded to the report of an apartment fire at 1284 Bayside Avenue within minutes and reported smoke showing from the front of the building.
NORTH STAFFORD — One man suffered multiple gunshot wounds at a Stafford County home.
Sheriff’s deputies were called a townhome at 303 Knollwood Court off Highpointe Boulevard at 5 p.m. Monday for a report of shots fired.
STAFFORD — Failing septic systems are a problem in Stafford County.
The homeowner at 685 Courthouse Road asked county officials for a non-subsidized sewage pump when the septic system at his home failed. Since its no longer filtering waste, as it was designed to do, the homeowner is now responsible for having the tank pumped out on a regular basis.
Dr. Niyati Dhokai, of the Hylton Performing Arts Center, was honored for her work with veterans.

FALMOUTH — It was clean-up time on the banks of the Rappahannock River on Monday.
The river spilled its banks over the weekend leaving large debris like trees covering the River Road in Falmouth. Large dump trucks, earth movers, and chainsaw operators were called into to remove the debris while the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office turned away motorists hoping to use the popular cut-through street that links Route 3 with Routes 1 and 17.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement 42nd Session graduated on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, just outside Manassas.
The 22 men and women completed a 24-week course of training in all aspects of police work, including classes in firearms, use-of-force decision making, driver training, legal training, patrol techniques, criminal investigation and crash investigation.
