PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — As the construction ramps up for new express toll lanes on Interstate 66, and the population of Prince William County grows, more traffic relief is coming for Route 234 near Manassas.

The four-lane highway that links I-66 to I-95 has drawn attention lately with projects pushed forward by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, particularly at the Brentsville Road interchange and the University Boulevard intersection.

DUMFRIES — Water crews mopped up a mess in Dumfries.

Workers fixed a burst 12-inch water main Wednesday evening that snarled traffic in Virginia’s oldest, continuously chartered town. The pipe, located between Tripoli Boulevard and Old Stage Coach Road, ruptured about 1:30 p.m. Crews had the water shut off about 15 minutes later, but the damage to the afternoon commute had been done.


Mayor Hal Parrish and members of the Manassas City Council recently joined business owners Adiam and Veronica Musie and members of the community to celebrate the grand opening of their restaurant, Vera’s Kitchen in the Manassas Historic District. 

Located at 9255 Center Street, Vera’s Kitchen offers a variety of hearty entrees as well as lighter fare inspired by Veronica’s culinary experiences in her native Ethiopia. 


STAFFORD — The Stafford County School Board will vote on its 2019-2020 school year calendar at on June 26.

The Board will consider two options for the school year: One would be a pre-Labor Day start. The year would begin on August 12 and conclude in late May.


STAFFORD — Jordan Nicole Garrison, 21, of Stafford, died last Friday in what her obituary states was a “tragic car accident.”

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office closed a portion of White Oak Road in the area of Town and Country Drive for four hours on Friday, June 15. Deputies were investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a 21-year-old woman, authorities said.
