MANASSAS PARK — Massive city debt has crippled badly needed updates to Manassas Park’s water system, city officials confirmed.
At least half of Manassas Park’s water system pipes are 65 years old, laid when installation was mostly unregulated and not held to particular standards. As a result, breaks are common occurrences, especially as cold weather approaches.

Widewater Elementary is hosting their first Veterans Day flag ceremony on the front lawn at 9:30 a.m. Past and present service members will dress in uniform. Students and families are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue in show of support. The Widewater PTO is selling flags to wave during the ceremony for $1.00 each. Officials are seeking input from residents about its 2040 comprehensive plan which is the “long-term” vision for the county that lays out the levels of services.
WASHINGTON — Sen. Tim Kaine is pushing for federal protection for school drinking water on top of Virginia’s state-mandated protections for students.
Kaine joined 34 others in calling the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency to protect students from lead in drinking water.

Sameride, an independent company launched in 2016, offers free carpooling to commuters looking or offering a ride to the office. Similar to ridesharing services Uber and Lyft, Sameride utilizes an app that allows its customers to connect with each other not just in their own neighborhood but along the routes they drive as well. Users of the app have referred to it as “an Uber for slugging.”
NORTH STAFFORD — A new car wash could soon be built next to North Stafford High School.
The Stafford County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 16 heard the case for a conditional use permit to that would allow owner Donn Hart to open Patriot’s Crossing Car Wash on Garrisonville Road near the school.
