We’ve long been reporting on Stafford County’s efforts to bring wireless high-spend internet to portions of the area that don’t have it.
It’s been an issue Aquia District Supervisor Cindy Shelton has championed during multiple meetings and town halls. As leaders pressed state and federal officials for funding, Shelton knocked on doors rally neighbors to the cause.

Three sheds were ablaze on Thursday afternoon the Lake Arrowhead section of Stafford County.
Fire crews were initially called to check on a report of billing smoke in the area of 31 Ridge Drive. They found the sheds on fire, according to initial reports.
Stafford County Administrator Tom Foley will retire on July 1 after a 30-year career serving jurisdictions in Virginia.
The county will search for a replacement for Foley. His departure comes as the county continues to grow in population and increasingly finds itself increasingly becoming apart of the Northern Virginia region.
The observation tower overlooking the Manassas Regional Airport has reached the end of its useful life.
The nearly 60-year-old structure is wrought with issues, to include the air conditioning not being able to keep pace with the heat generated by the electronics inside the tower, to the most serious: those in the tower can’t get a full view of the airport’s runway, which was extended by 500 feet in 2012.
Manassas police say a search warrant was being carried out at Corriander Circle, near the Wellington Station shopping center, and that’s the reason for the large police presence there.

300 Block of Twin Brook Lane, 01/21, 4:07 p.m. A resident reported that he made an arrangement through Facebook Marketplace to sell a pair of Air Pods. When they met, the buyer asked to see the Air Pods. After the seller handed him the Air Pods, the buyer took off running.
Press release | Beginning Monday, January 27, 2020, FRED Transit will relocate its Spotsylvania Avenue transfer point from its current location to about five miles south to its new location in the parking lot of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries (RGI) at 4701 Market Street. Each route will continue to serve Stop 26 on Spotsylvania Avenue, but buses will no longer make transfers here.
The one thing city leaders in Manassas don’t want is tall buildings that loom over people as they walk on downtown sidewalks.
In the city’s new comprehensive plan, a vision for 2040, the city wants all buildings that line streets to be constructed in a way so that a three-story portion of the building abuts the street, while a “step back” portion of the building rises as high as five stories.
