Prince William to conduct virtual learning in fall, transition later into hybrid model

Prince William County Schools (PWCS) students won’t be headed back to the classroom to school in fall, but they will likely return later in the school year.

During its six-hour meeting on July 15, the county’s school board unanimously approved a return to learning plan in which students participate in solely virtual learning for the first quarter, starting on September 8 and ending October 30. A goal of transitioning into a hybrid of in-person and virtual learning later in the school year remains in place, with the option for students to stay virtual.

Stafford approves both in-person and virtual learning for fall, but is open to change

Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) students will be attending school both in-person and online.

During its July 14 meeting, the county’s school board approved SCPS Superintendant Dr. Scott Kizner’s return to learning plan, which has students attending school both virtually and in-person when school resumes August 31. Parents, however, do have the option for their children to attend school completely virtually if they so choose.

Wanted man involved in the stabbing of a woman caught, held without bond

A man wanted for maliciously stabbing a woman before fleeing the scene was caught within the same day the crime happened.

According to a Manassas City Police Department press release, the event occurred on July 14, at 6:48 a.m. when officers arrived to investigate a report of a stabbing. Police stated that when they arrived at 10200 Block of Cedar Ridge Drive, they found a woman injured from a stab wound.

2 Stafford women win top lotto prizes, tickets sold in Dale City

Two unrelated Stafford women won the top prizes for two different lottery games and both plan on spending it on a new house.

 Anya Dennis received a phone call from her husband excitingly telling her that they matched all five numbers for the Cash 5 Lottery Game. According to a Virginia Lottery press release, the couple had bought 12 tickets for an upcoming June 14 drawing with all the same numbers.

Man strikes family member before proceeding to throw knives at the victim

A family altercation turned violent when a suspect struck a family member multiple times before throwing knives at the victim.

A press release from Prince William County Police Department stated that the crime occurred on Saturday, July 11, when officers arrived at a home located at 14000 Block of Mathews Drive in Woodbridge. According to police, a domestic dispute was called into police by a victim in the household.

New I-95 northbound overpass now open at Route 17

Commuters driving on Northbound Interstate 95 will begin traveling over a new overpass of Route 17 near Exit 133 in Stafford County.

Motorists will experience a temporary rough travel surface near the new overpass and uneven lanes. Motorcyclists are advised to remain in their travel lane in this area. Paving of the final travel surface will occur on Tuesday through Friday evenings this week, with lane closures between 10 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.
