Three Republican candidates seeking a seat on the Manassas City Council say they’ll stay focused on small businesses and reduce the tax burden on city residents who pay the second-highest property tax rate in Virginia.

Harry Clark, a city resident of nearly 30 years, is making his first run at elected office. Since 2002, he’s served on multiple city boards and commissions to include the Planning Commission and the Board of Equalization.

Maxine Lynch, 85, born September 8, 1935 began her homegoing journey on October 17, 2020 at her home in Fairfax, Virginia.

Born in Corinna, Maine, Maxine preceded in death by her parents, Harold W. Covel and Gladys (Chase) McLaughlin; son, Gary Whiting; 2 brothers, Arthur W. and Donald E. Covel, Sr.; 4 sisters, Evelyn Louise Pearl, Ellen Safford, Roberta Pratt, Dorothea Covel.

Construction crews will begin to demolish the former Interstate 95 southbound overpass at Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County starting Monday, Oct. 19.

Route 17 motorists should anticipate overnight lane closures, ramp closures and intermittent full traffic stops for several weeks in late October and November to allow crews to remove the former overpass.

Republicans vying for a seat on the Manassas City Council will take questions today on Zoom.

Ross Snare, of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the discussion. Snare will take questions submitted by the public and ask them of the three candidates.
