Fredericksburg is looking to turn the city’s new Riverside Park into a “smart” park.
The city will enter a partnership with the Center for Innovative Technology to bring smart technology that would be a feature of the new park when it opens to the public next year.
A trash compactor caught fire at a Goodwill store in North Stafford.
At about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, November 29 the Stafford County Fire and Rescue was called to fire at Goodwill Industries located at 72 Doc Stone Drive. Callers reported a trash compactor was on fire at this location.

For years, Prince William County residents have praised their police department.
Citizen satisfaction surveys dating back to 2007, when the county initiated its controversial immigration policy that initially required officers to check the legal immigration status of anyone suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, show the department received high marks from ethnicities across the board, including Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites.
The DMV Select at Dumfries Town Hall will remain shuttered indefinitely.
Town Manager Keith Rogers told members of the Town Council at a meeting on Tuesday, November 17. He plans to keep the center shuttered until the number of new coronavirus cases reported in Prince William County decline.

Washington, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham will become the top cop in Prince William County.
The Board of County Supervisors hired Newsham today after a day-long interview session at Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge. He was one of our top four finalists from a pool of 50 candidates who applied for the position, to include acting Police Chief Col. Jarad Phelps, who’s been serving as the county’s top cop since former Chief Barry Barnard retired on June 1.
Students at Manassas City Public Schools are returning to the classroom for the first time since March.
Special Education students returned to the classroom on November 4. In December, the city School Board is set to vote on when to return the remainder of the school division’s nearly 8,000 students to the classroom, up to three days per week.
