Stafford County wants to change the name of Route 1, but leaders there would prefer a different name than what Delegate Joshua Cole (D-28, Fredericksburg, Stafford) proposes.

At a meeting of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, December 15, a leaders discussed a Cole’s bill that will introduced into the Virginia General Assembly, which begins on January 13, 2021, that would remove the name of Jefferson Davis from Route 1 and rename the highway after the Loving Family, of Caroline County.


Following last week’s fatal police shooting of a 79-year-old Dumfries man, Supervisor Kenny Boddye has announced his intention to create a civilian review board that would have the authority to investigate police use-of-force incidents and to take disciplinary action against police officers who break the rules.

The Manassas City Council announced Monday night that David Farajollahi, a Congressional liaison at the U.S. Geological Survey and local Democratic committee board member, will take Michelle Davis-Younger’s seat when she becomes mayor in January.


Michael Vanderpool, a prominent Manassas lawyer, spent about an hour before the Manassas City Council trying to sell the idea of building 28 new townhomes on 10 acres of his land.

Vanderpool, 70, told city leaders on Tuesday, December 14, that he raised his children in the two-story home that sits on the property at 10201 Godwin Drive, and it would now make a good home for other families.


Royal Farms, a Maryland-based convenience store chain has applied for special permits to open a new location at Alum Springs Road and Route 1.
