U.S. flags won’t be flying on utility poles in Manassas neighborhoods, after all.

City leaders on Saturday quashed a pilot program that would have expanded the city’s flag ordinance to include residential neighborhood streets. For the first time, Old Glory would be allowed to hang on city-owned utility poles in those neighborhoods, the same as it does downtown.


Jefferson Davis Highway & Garrisonville Road, 2/18, 12:10 a.m. Deputy C.T. Richardson observed a vehicle speeding. As the deputy attempted to turn around and catch-up to the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated. The deputy then lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly later, deputies were dispatched to a hit and run. The victim advised the suspect vehicle sideswiped her vehicle and left without stopping. It is believed the suspect vehicle is the same vehicle Deputy Richardson observed speeding. The suspect vehicle is a tan or gray Honda sedan.

Telegraph Road & Jefferson Davis Highway, 2/18, 8:03 p.m. The victim reported he was driving southbound on Jefferson Davis Highway when a truck side swiped his vehicle. The driver’s side mirror was struck and damaged. The suspect vehicle is a white Ford F-250.


The Young Marines, a national youth organization, announced the Division 2 Young Marine of the Year – YM/SgtMaj Ian Ross, 15, of Woodford, Virginia.

He is a member of the LCpl Caleb John Powers Young Marines from Fredericksburg, under the command of his father Kirk Ross.


Trucks delivering new bridge beams for the reconstruction of Chatham Bridge will briefly stop traffic near the Sophia Street and William Street intersection in the City of Fredericksburg on several dates in February and March.

Traffic will be stopped for no more than 15-minute intervals, and for no more than several intervals on each delivery day. All deliveries will occur between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.


Stafford County is considering giving pay raises to teachers and staff.

The county School Board met Tuesday and heard a presentation from Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner’s the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22. If approved by the School Board, the schools’ budget will increase 5.25% by $16.9 million, bringing the total funding to $340 million.


On Wednesday, February 17, Larry, Stafford County Fire and Rescue’s (SCFR) first peer support canine, was officially placed with his handler within the department.

As a peer support canine, Larry, along with his handler Technician Jeffrey Stocker, will be a resource for department personnel experiencing work related stress or trauma.


Units with Stafford County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) were dispatched to a structure fire just after 6:45 on Wednesday morning on Randolph Road near the intersection of Jefferson Street, near Fredericksburg.

The first arriving units arrived less than five minutes later and reported smoke and fire coming from a single-family home. Crews brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes.
