Manassas National Battlefield Park is preparing for a prescribed fire. We plan to manage the fire on Tuesday, March 9. This date may change depending upon weather conditions. The planned fire will be on about 75 acres near the Deep Cut (west of Featherbed Lane and south of General Trimbles Lane).

This will be the park’s fourth prescribed fire, and it follows successful burns in April 2018 and March and November 2019. The goals of this burn are to restore historic battlefield viewsheds, maintain wildlife habitat, and control woody and invasive species.


Route 628 (Winding Creek Road) in Stafford County will be closed between Route 733 (Embrey Mill Road) and Route 1947 (Walpole Street) beginning Monday, March 15.

The road will remain closed for an estimated six months. Road construction will be performed under permit as part of a private development project.


A Stafford County man faces involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from a fatal crash that occurred last month on Mountain View Road.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash at 5:59 p.m. February 8, where they found a car that collided with a tree and a fence. A passenger was pulled from the wreckage and later died. He was identified as 26-year-old Sean O’Driscoll, of Stafford.


A 21-year-old man is recovering from his injuries after being hit by a bullet in the shoulder and neck Wednesday night.

A 9-1-1 call came in at 4:45 p.m. about the shooting in the area of Heron Drive in the England Run apartment complex in south Stafford County.


The Route 1 northbound traffic shift at the Potomac Creek bridge in Stafford County is now set for Friday, March 5 after being postponed last month.

Both northbound travel lanes will remain open. But as construction on the bridge replacement project enters the next phase, northbound traffic will be shifted around 20 feet to the right to cross Potomac Creek. This shift allows crews to build the northbound lanes on the new bridge.


A Fredericksburg man who authorities said eluded them during a car pursuit, and then crashed into a light pole, is now also faces credit card fraud charges.
