On Monday, May 10, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the existing wooden deck on the Stefaniga Road bridge over Potomac Run in Stafford County.
A recent inspection of the bridge revealed deterioration of the bridge deck. Replacing the deck will reduce the occurrence of potholes and pavement break-ups.
Two wanted individuals are in custody and are facing additional drug charges after a traffic stop.
On April 28 at 10:05 a.m., Deputy B.W. Gildea stopped a vehicle leaving the Sleep Inn on Warrenton Road. Deputy Gildea began speaking with the driver who appeared nervous and reluctant to provide her identification, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives continue to investigate this week’s robbery of the SunTrust Bank on Prosperity Lane and request the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
On April 27 at 10:46 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center was notified by the alarm company for SunTrust Bank (40 Prosperity Lane) that a hold-up alarm had been activated. Deputies responded to the bank and were notified by dispatchers that an employee reported the business had been robbed.
Stafford’s Board of Supervisors adopted its Fiscal Year 2022 Budget and Fiscal Year 2022–31 Capital Improvement Program.
The FY2022 Budget takes effect on July 1, 2021, and includes a tax rate of $0.97 and a personal property tax rate of $6.10. Before this meeting, the Board of Supervisors did vote to advertise the real estate tax rate at $1.01, per the County Administrator’s Proposed Budget.
Woman faces arson charge
At 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27th, units with Stafford County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a home on Oak Drive near the intersection of Maple Drive for a reported structure fire in a townhouse. First arriving fire and rescue units arrived less the five minutes later to find Stafford County Sheriff’s Deputies already on the scene of a disturbance.
