FredNats to host MLB Home Run Derby X

Fredericksburg Nationals: “Major League Baseball (MLB) today announced plans to host MLB Home Run Derby X events in two Minor League Baseball stadiums in August, marking the first two activations to take place in the United States since MLB introduced Home Run Derby X last year in London, Mexico City and Seoul.”

“2009 American League All-Star and 2010 World Series Champion Nick Swisher and 2013 World Series Champion and 13-year MLB veteran Jonny Gomes will participate in the Hartford event. Gomes will be joined by a yet-to-be-named MLB legend for the event in Fredericksburg.”

Mitchell seeks GOP nomination for Stafford Treasurer; focused on customer service

Heather Mitchell is seeking the GOP nomination for Stafford County Treasurer.

Mitchell already works in the treasurer’s office as a chief deputy to outgoing treasurer Laura Rudy, who chose not to run for re-election after serving since 2008. Rudy endorsed Mitchell when she announced her retirement in December 2022.

National Weather Service: “A Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms expected today over far southern Maryland and portions of the central Chesapeake Bay. A Marginal Risk expected today between U.S. 15 and southern Maryland, including the metros of Baltimore and Washington D.C.”

“Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 82. South wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.”

Deputies nab Foxwood Village knifepoint robber

Stafford County sheriff: “On June 2nd at approximately 8:37 p.m., deputies responded to an attempted robbery on Foxwood Drive. The victim was able to flee from the suspect during the incident. Less than 20 minutes later, deputies responded to Vista Woods Road for a successful robbery.

“Since June 2nd, both deputies and detectives have been working nonstop to identify the suspects involved as two more knife point robberies were committed, most recently on June 8th.”

Man, 19, shot and killed on Lafayette Boulevard

Fredericksburg police: “The Fredericksburg Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting. Earlier [Sunday, June 11, 2023] at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Fredericksburg E-911 Center received a call about an unconscious male bleeding in the 1700 block of Lafayette Boulevard.”

“Patrol officers responded swiftly and located the male who had gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began performing lifesaving measures until EMS arrived. Shortly after, the victim was pronounced dead.”

Brennon Christopher Craig of Woodbridge is one of 332 Mars Hill University students named on the Honor Roll of the Academic Dean at the end of the spring 2023 semester.

Ten local students recently received scholarships from the Park West Lions Club at a dinner meeting to recognize each recipient. Fredericksburg City Government: “An Unveiling Event is being planned for the new historical highway marker commemorating the “Great Exodus from Bondage” and honoring John Washington.”
