Lorton, Va. –– The rain came down in spurts Thursday morning, sometimes in light showers and others times in torrential downpours.

Thick fog began to form over the Occoquan River about 8:30 a.m., adding to an already horrendous rush hour that saw backups on Interstate 95 from Dumfries to the 14th Street Bridge.


Update 4 p.m. – Flood restrictions lifted on VRE’s Fredericksburg line

After stating all trains on the Fredericksburg line would be delayed this evening after CSX railroad extended flood restrictions, now the commuter railroad has said those restrictions have been lifted and no further delays are expected tonight on the Fredericksburg line.


I am in fear that my son is going to be a ‘cool kid’.  Mind you before he was born I figured I wanted a popular child who had great social skills, personality and walked on water whenever he chose.

But now that he’s here and exploring all that comes with being a 13-year-old “man boy” – I just want him to be as non-cool as possible. (more…)


A large area of rain that is associated with Tropical Storm Nicole, which is moving its way up along the East Coast over the next 36 hours, will bring a deluge of rain, forecasters said.

A flash flood watch was put into effect for the Potomac communities by the National Weather Service earlier today. But if that watch is increased to a flood warning, train speeds on VRE’s trainlines will slow. (more…)


Virginia Railway Express wants to know more about what’s on their passengers’ minds.

The commuter railroad is asking riders who board at the Quantico, Woodbridge and Lorton stations to consider joining its Passenger Alliance Coalition.


Stafford, Va. –– When a mortar exploded behind him, injuring his leg and ending his tour of duty with the Marines in Iraq, he didn’t think someday the community would come together to help him build a new home.

Retired Sgt. Kenny Lyon, 25, greeted those who came to County Fare Restaurant in Stafford on Monday night, thanking them each for donating $10, which got them a burger, fries and a drink. One hundred percent of the donations will go to build him a new home off U.S. 17 in Stafford County. (more…)


Woodbridge, Va. –– Residents took old prescription drugs shopping with them Saturday.

At the collection center at Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge, DEA agents collected 225 pounds of old, unused prescription drugs as part of the first-ever National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.


Quantico, Va. ––  Officials at Quantico are cracking down on the use of a substance that when smoked mimics the affects of marijuana.

Base commanders call the drugs “Spice,” or K2,” which contain synthetic compounds that mirror THC – the psychotropic agent found in pot.
