Stafford, Va. — Clouded skies have led to a tornado watching being posted for Stafford County until 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service posted the watch for the county and areas south of Stafford as high winds are expected to affect the region today.
Stafford, Va. — Stafford Sheriff’s Deputy James “Jimmy” Kingman will ride his bike this spring to honor fellow fallen law enforcement officers.
Kingman is one of 300 or more officers who will bike the 240-mile distance from Chesapeake, Va. to Washington in the “Road to Hope Memorial Ride” starting May 10th. The three-day ride has stops in Richmond and in Stafford County and will end at Washington’s National Law Enforcement Memorial, where officers will remember the fallen at a candlelight vigil.

U.S. Postal Service identifies 223 sites for closure
The Washington Business Journal reports The U.S. Postal Service has largely completed a five-month study into closing mail processing facilities and has identified 223 sites for potential closure.
Panera Bread plans more pay-what-you-want cafes
WTOP.com reports Panera Bread is opening at least two more pay-what-you-want cafes as part of its effort to help feed the hungry in a dignified way.
The Stafford County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously denied an application from WGRQ-FM to erect a tower at 494 Hollywood Farm Road in Stafford’s George Washington District, relocating the tower from neighboring King George County.
After taking an extended period of time to look into the proposed tower, George Washington District Supervisor Bob Thomas sided with a handful of residents who spoke out against the tower at two public hearings in the last month. The freshman supervisor was concerned about the impact the tower would have on current homes and on ones yet to be built.
Victims of crimes in Stafford County will soon receive emotional support and comfort from a four-legged addition to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Victim-Witness Office. Kahn, a male black Labrador retriever, will join the Victim-Witness staff on Tuesday, February 21. The dog will work with children and adult victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse and other violent crimes.
“Stafford’s court system has a deep respect and appreciation for the courage of the victims who come forward to work with our prosecutors,” said Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Susan Stimpson, Falmouth District. “Kahn will be a great help in making victims, especially children, more comfortable.”

Stafford, Va. — Mountain View High School in Stafford is presenting an original one act play “Blow By Blow: A Modern Morality Play” on Friday Feb. 24th at 7 p.m. It will be followed by an improvisation show by the MVHS Thunder- Acts. Tickets are $5. Half of all proceeds will go to an anti-bullying/ suicide prevention organization.
“Blow by Blow: An Original Morality Play” was conceived and devised and written by the director and cast. It deals with bullying.
North Stafford, Va. — A woman said a pickup driver pulled a gun on her and now two men face charges.
The victim was in the left turn lane of Highpoint Boulevard at Mine Road in North Stafford when a white pickup pulled up beside her. The driver of truck glared at the victim, brandished a gun and then pointed it at her, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
