North Stafford, Va. — A Yorktown man is behind bars after investigators said he tried to solicit sex in North Stafford.

A Stafford Sheriff’s Office Detective was portraying a 13-year-old girl on the internet when the suspect contacted the detective during the middle of February and made plans to meet at the Hampton Inn hotel on U.S. 1, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.


Neighbors and politicians took time out of their schedules to visit with students on this 15th annual Read Across America Day.

Congressman Gerry Connolly, D-Fairfax, Prince William, read Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” to students at McAuliffe Elementary School in Dale City on Friday morning.

Woodbridge mobile home park owner asks court to allow rebuilding
The Washington Post reports The owner of a Woodbridge mobile home park that was inundated during flooding last year is asking a Prince William County Circuit Court to allow mobile homes to be rebuilt before the court considers a pending lawsuit.


Woodbridge, Va. — Blair Christolon, a librarian with the Prince William Public Library System, has been chosen to serve as a member of the 2012 John Newbery Award Committee. The committee is charged with the annual selection of one book as the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

The Newbery Award Committee operates under the direction of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. Only fifteen librarians from across the nation are chosen to serve on this prestigious committee, and the book they choose will be on school reading lists for decades to come.


Incarcerated ex-Marine charged in 2009 slaying of Navy petty officer
The Washington Post reports A former U.S. Marine already serving a prison sentence was charged Thursday in the 2009 slaying of a female Navy petty officer at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington County, federal prosecutors said. The case has ties to Woodbridge.

Stafford, Va. — Colonial Forge High School received a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for their proposal titled From the Garden to the Kitchen. The grant application was submitted based on the goal of improving the learning community at Colonial Forge.
