As part of the “Let’s Move” initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids, the National Park Trust is hosting “National Kids to Parks Day” on May 19. People nationwide are being encouraged to sign up on via website and pledge to take their children outside to a park that day. Several parks in or near the Potomac Communities are participating by hosting events in honor of the day.


Last year, NOVA Fortnightly, the newspaper of Northern Virginia Community College, became the first publication of the college to ever win a Virginia Press Association award.

MANASSAS, Va. — The Prince William Boys and Girls Clubs has developed a website for mobile devices that allows you to easily give online.

The new site, m.bgcprincewilliam.org, provides information about the clubs in Dale City, Dumfries, and Manassas, as well as videos of children who benefit from the clubs’ activities. There’s also a link to donate to the “Send a Kid to Camp” campaign, which organizes summer youth activities for children involved in the clubs, said clubs director Glenn Vickers.


NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — A church in North Stafford was burglarized and now lawn its care equipment is missing.

A sheriff’s deputy was called to the Stafford Korean Baptist Church on Onville Road, just off Va. 610, on Tuesday when the a riding lawnmower, push mower, gas, and other items were reported stolen from a shed. The burglary happened between 8 and 10:30 a.m., said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
