With weather forecasts projecting 6-10 inches of snow in the Stafford area, VDOT has mobilized and prepared to clear major roadways across the state.

More than 800 pieces of equipment are available in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to plow roads and apply sand and salt. Approximately 70 trucks are dedicated to clearing Interstate 95’s travel lanes and ramps.


In case you haven’t heard, there is a major winter storm bearing down on our area.

The snow is expected to begin falling tonight in Central Virginia between 5 and 7 p.m., putting in Northern Virginia sometime after 8 p.m. A winter storm warning is posted for the region between 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, and with temperatures well below the freezing mark outside what falls will all begin as snow.

As Stafford and surrounding areas prepare from 6-10 inches of snow starting this evening, the Governor of Virginia has declared a state of emergency.

In declaring a state of emergency, the governor authorizes state agencies to identify and position resources for quick response anywhere they are needed in Virginia.


Historic Dumfries turns 40 years old this month.

The organization charted to bring more visitors to the Prince William County town, as well as maintaining the popular Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries, was recognized recently for their milestone.


Trouble apparently found more trouble Monday night in Dale City.

A 16-year-old told police he made arrangements to conduct a “transaction” with another man in the 13200 block of Nickelson Drive. Police say the transaction was legal and then went bad when the man pulled out a taser and tried to unsuccessfully shock the teenager.


Stafford is currently under a Winter Storm Watch, as snow is projected to begin on Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday evening.

While Stafford is expected to have more than 5 inches of accumulation, some models from the National Weather Service project more than 12-inches of accumulation throughout the region.
