Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge is celebrating 50 years of serving Eastern Prince William County and surrounding areas.

The hospital opened as Potomac Hospital and operated under the name until 2012. Dr. Carol Shapiro recalls being part of the hospital’s opening day ceremonies on November 7, 1972.


The Dumfries Town Council will decide whether or not to allow a daycare center to operate in a shopping center on Main Street.

Woodbridge-area businesses have until December 15 to apply and receive funds in the Route 1 Refresh grant. (The Center Square) — A fuel supply and logistics company is warning about diesel shortages across the southeastern United States, issuing an alert on Friday about “rapidly devolving” conditions in North Carolina and six other states.

Mansfield moved to “Alert Level 4” to address market volatility, and “Code Red” in the Southeast, which means the company is now requesting 72-hour notice for deliveries when possible “to ensure fuel and freight can be secured at economical levels.”

The Federal Reserve recently distributed questionnaires to gather data for its Small Business Credit Survey 2022 Report on Employer Firms.

Updated — One of the most familiar faces in the Stafford County business community is headed west.

Rick Cobert, an economic development manager who worked with prospective and existing businesses, will become the new chief economic development director in Winchester. He starts tomorrow.


Manassas will welcome its newest art gallery during a ribbon-cutting event on Friday, November 4.

Founded in Manassas by Virginia native Nancy Jean Edmundson and former Manassas City Councilman Ian Lovejoy, the Lovejoy Gallery on Main is a working studio that also hosts a collection of art from around the world. The two are engaged to be married.


The Prince William County Service Authority’s H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility in Woodbridge has earned the 2022 Facility Maintenance Award from the Virginia Water Environment Association for its Oil Analysis Program. The award recognizes the facility for its outstanding performance in maintaining its wastewater treatment equipment and processes.

Through its Oil Analysis Program and working with a contractor, staff at the Woodbridge facility conduct an analysis of oil used in its machinery twice a year. This analysis helps determine the ideal time between oil changes for specialized equipment, which can be longer or shorter than manufacturers’ recommendations.
