Construction set to begin on Northern Virginia veterans care center

Northern Virginia veterans will soon have a new place to recover and retire.

A new Puller Veterans Care Center will be built on a 30-acre site at Vint Hill Road and Vint Hill Parkway in Fauquier County, just across the Prince William County line.

2 children at Dumfries Elementary School get bicycles on Bike to Work Day

Dumfries Elementary School students DeShawn Lang and Iris Gomez were given each a new bicycle from Volunteer Prince William.

DUMFRIES, Va. — Iris Gomez had never ridden a bicycle.

That all changed for the second grader at Dumfries Elementary School on Friday when she was given a brand new 20-inch pink and purple bike, and safety helmet.

Manassas hikes tax rates, fully funds capital improvements

In a second-floor conference room inside city hall, away from the TV cameras and lights of the council chambers, Manassas leaders passed a tax increase for the coming year’s budget.

Starting July 1, residents will pay $198 more per year on their property tax bills, bringing the average residential city tax bill to $3,929. It’s about a 5% increase over the previous year’s budget.

Update on Route 1 widening: Utilities going underground

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Power lines along Route 1 in Woodbridge are coming down.

A portion of the highway between Mary’s Way and Occoquan Road is being widened to six lanes. The utilities that used to run above ground are being buried as part of the project.

For seven years since starting Potomac Local, one of the biggest complaints I heard from our readers and residents of our community is that there is no one single source to read all of the obituaries following the demise of the Potomac News / Manassas Journal Messenger newspapers.

Potomac Local just solved this problem by building a NEW, comprehensive obituaries section that automatically posts obituaries from all funeral homes in Prince William County and Manassas.
