STAFFORD — The Stafford County School Board opted for more time to study the purchase of the old Fredericksburg Christian School.

Elected leaders voted unanimously to extend the original 45-day study period to determine if the building’s current commercial zoning would permit use by the public school division.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — A new bill that fully funds Metro to the tune of $154 million annually means traffic relief on Route 28 could come later than originally planned.

State legislators passed a bill this winter that would, for the first time since its inception, provide a dedicated revenue stream for Washington’s Metro rail system. The move, however, drains more than $100 million in revenues from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, charged with improving mobility on area roads and transit systems.

WOODBRIDGE — The Friends of Leesylvania State Park remembered Henry “Light Horse” Harry Lee III on the 200th anniversary of his death on Sunday.

A wreath was laid Sunday at the park’s bicentennial monument commemorating the Revolutionary soldier who was born and raised in what today is the park.

WOODBRIDGE — Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman At-large Corey Stewart says its time make a decision about the future of the county’s rural area.

“We’re talking about the future of our county here,” he said. “If we do nothing, we’re going to see the rural area carved up into 10-acre lots, all with homes on them.”

WOODBRIDGE — Sentara officials won approval from the Health Systems Board of Northern Virginia for a PET/CT scanner at its Northern Virginia Medical center in Woodbridge.

The proposal now heads from the Northern Virginia Regional Commission to Richmond for a hearing in front of the state’s health commissioner on May 22.

MANASSAS — City officials are set to release $2.2 million bond monies to fund the design of the new public safety center on Grant Avenue. 

Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, PC, (HOK) was chosen as the architects of the new building. The firm recently completed buildings in Fairfax County like the county’s public safety headquarters; the Fairfax County McConnell Public Safety Transportation & Operations Center.

STAFFORD — Stafford leaders want to take another comprehensive look at county roadways with the formation of a new working group.

The task force will examine congested areas and unsafe corridors in the county that are in need of improvement and will be made up of members of the Board of County Supervisors who will also appoint members to the group.
