Scoop: New elementary school to be named for John D. Jenkins

WOODBRIDGE — A new elementary school in Woodbridge will be named for a long-serving member of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.

Currently known as “Parkway Elementary School,” the new campus near Chinn Park Regional Library will be permanently named John D. Jenkins Elementary School.

Stafford Soccer supports Aquia Town Center field house; Owner pleads for continued tax breaks

STAFFORD — The idea to build an indoor recreation center at Aquia Town Center has its supporters.

Stafford Soccer General Manager Barry Hill said he’s got 4,000 members, from children to adults, who play the sport that would not only utilize the facility but would also participate in two-day tournaments that would draw in hundreds from far away.

Stafford dangles cash in hopes contractor finishes road project ahead of new Moncure opening

STAFFORD — The slated improvements to Juggins Road in North Stafford is one of the county’s most important road projects.

Juggins Road is the main thoroughfare that will carry hundreds of students, and teachers to a new Anne. E. Moncure Elementary that is slated to open this fall.

Economic developers shift focus to eastern Prince William

WOODBRIDGE — Under new rules adopted Tuesday, Prince William County may use public funds to incentivize economic development projects.

Property developers could now find themselves eligible for county funds to buy property to advance a project like a new office building. The funds could be used to buy property on which “modest homes” sit, as suggested by Potomac District Supervisor Maureen Caddigan. Once purchased, those homes would be cleared for larger commercial projects.

City councilman says he’s made an offer to settle tax debt

MANASSAS — A Manassas City Councilman says he’s made an offer to the state to settle a federal tax lien claiming he owes nearly a quarter million dollars in back taxes.

New court documents dated Jan. 28, 2019 claim Councilman Mark D. Wolfe to be in arrears in $22,286 back property taxes owed to the city.
