Members of the Manassas Parks and Recreation Committee will soon fan out into public parks with a mission.

The 11-member board plans to pick up clipboards, and armed with a checklist will perform an inventory of facilities at the city’s 17 public parks. They’ll be checking for litter, the quality and condition of park benches, playground equipment, landscaping, picnic tables, and making sure park signs are prominently posted and easy to read.

Some merchants in Downtown Manassas were unhappy when the new Messenger Place apartment complex opened in July.

At five floors, 94 apartments, and 3,500 square feet of ground-level retail space, it’s one of the tallest and largest buildings on Downtown. Existing merchants said the new structure looms over the neighborhood’s other, older brick buildings, we reported in March.

A familiar face in Prince William County is running to lead the Virginia Republican Party.

(Rich) Anderson announced that he is a candidate for election as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV). This year, Virginia Republicans will elect a state party chairman for a four-year term at the 2020 RPV Quadrennial State Convention on May 1-2 in Lynchburg.

A new Prince William Board County Supervisors will meet for the first time at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, and it will begin where the last Board left off — gun rights.

The newly elected Board members that took office January 1 have put forth a new resolution urging state legislators to pass so-called red flag laws that limit residents’ ability to get firearms and provide more money to law enforcement which is on the front lines dealing with those who have a mental illness.
