Together, they marshalled 40 volunteers and PMAH staff members at 5 project sites to tackle major projects for clients from around the county. Volunteers braved a cold, wet Saturday to make a difference in the lives of low income seniors by making home repairs to make their homes more livable.

Among the volunteers were a number of first time PMAH participants, including seven adolescents. Over the course of several hours, the PMAH teams were able to accomplish repairs including replacing doors and siding, fixing gutters, yard cleanup, replacing flooring, installing safety grab bars and various plumbing repairs.

Shane Black, of Stafford,  is a member of the Lafayette football team participating in the 150th meeting of college football’s most-played rivalry at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 22. More than 49,000 tickets have been sold for the game, which will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Black is a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and a senior.

Prince William County Landfill and Balls Ford Road Yard Waste Composting Facility will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

These facilities will resume normal operation on Friday, November 28. The landfill and compost facility are open every day of the year, except New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. These facilities also close at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve.

On Dec. 11, 2014, Major Bruce H. ‘Doc’ Norton, USMC (Ret.) will speak at the Freedom Museum about several books he has authored on U.S. Military History. He will discuss several of the men about whom he has written, why he chose them, and will present lessons learned about writing military history, as well as mention some of his future projects.

During his Vietnam tours spanning five years, he was decorated for heroism “under fire on numerous occasions”. After his Vietnam Service, Major Norton attended the College of Charleston, where he earned a BA in US History and a Commission as a Second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired after twenty-four years of military service in command and staff positions and earned a Master’s Degree in Military Sciences before becoming the Director of the Marine Corps’ Command Museum, in San Diego, California, and also taught military history courses at the University of San Diego.

On Friday, November 14th, at approximately 5:30 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a two-story single family home located in the 14000 block of Grayson Road in Woodbridge.

Upon arrival, fire and rescue crews entered the home and discovered a fire in a first floor bedroom. Firefighters proceeded to attack and extinguish the fire as they searched for further extension of fire; no further extension was found; however, smoke and heat damage was discovered throughout the first and second floor.
