Booker departed this life on October 26, 2020 at his home with his daughter by his side. He was born on June 12, 1938 to the late Booker T. and Amy Thrower Atkinson in Fordyce, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, Booker was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Wilhelmina Smith Atkinson and a loving sister, Blanche Atkinson Battle.

James R. Hewitt, 72, of Woodbridge died October 23, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Patricia Hewitt.  He is survived by his children, Nancy Miller, Patrick Arthurs,, and Jennifer Hansen; grandchildren, Patrick Sean Arthurs, Jr., Shannon Arthurs, Jacob Arthurs, Jonathan Miller, Tony Perez, and Aidan Sanchez.  He is also survived by his brother, Donald Hewitt.

Cremation services are private.

Stafford’s Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities wanted to create a program to make its staff more inclusive and picked up an award for its efforts.

The program, Stafford Connects, was designed to provide mentorship and job exploration for young adults with disabilities throughout Stafford County. The county’s parks department facilitated the program which recently won a Best New Program award from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society Awards Program.
