Mary Washington Healthcare, owners of Stafford Hospital, will say goodbye to President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Rankin, who will be retiring in December this year.

Rankin joined Mary Washington Healthcare as president of Mary Washington Hospital in 1992. He was promoted in 1995 to president and chief executive officer of the not-for-profit MWHC regional system of healthcare facilities and wellness centers, which now includes 100-bed Stafford Hospital as well as 437-bed Mary Washington Hospital.

Working with organizations like Blue Star Moms and Home for Troops, Jimmy and Elani have donated food, collected money and held raffles to help build military families’ homes and send supplies to the troops.

The couple was bestowed the honor by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce and the Stafford County Board of Supervisors.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A new park and recreational facilities for Stafford residents is being built just west of Courthouse Road and I-95 on 50 acres of undeveloped property adjacent to the up-and-coming Embrey Mill housing development.

Stafford County identified $21 million in funds for the development of the park; a ”rectangular multi sport field complex,” and an $11 million swimming facility.

Graduating from North Stafford High School, Sellers earned her Sociology degree from North Carolina State University. In 2009, she had returned to Stafford County and chose to run against then Garrisonville District Supervisor Mark Dudenhefer.

Sellers recalled a conversation with her parents about how many Stafford races go uncontested, that sparked her interest in running for the Board seat.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Construction work to widen the two-mile stretch of U.S. 17, between Mc Lean Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, has geared up. Currently this stretch of U.S. 17 in Stafford County is six lanes, but it “narrows down very quickly to four,” said Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kelly Hannon.

“What we’re doing essentially is widening that road back out to six lanes all the way from I-95 to Stafford Lakes Parkway,” said Hannon.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Prince William Area Agency on Aging (PWAAA) and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) launched their Wheels to Wellness Program this spring, to provide free transit for the elderly, disabled and low-income individuals to medical appointments across the county.

Now, the transit agency announced it has received a second grant from the funding the Potomac Health Foundation to continue funding the service.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Several local officials, school administrators, students and community members gathered on the future site of the new Stafford High School for the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.

This $66 million dollar Capital Improvement (CIP) project was a heated point of debate in the county for the past several months, as divided supporters lobbied for a renovation to the existing Stafford Senior High School, while others felt that there should be a new school built on the property.
