A tractor trailer hauling tomatoes caught fire this morning under a brand new bridge in Haymarket.
The truck was traveling on Interstate 66 when it hit a guard rail. The truck them burst into flames underneath the new bridge that carries Route 15 traffic over I-66, known as the Diverging Diamond Interchange.
Lisa Sievel-Otten, City of Manassas Community Development Administrative Assistant, has authored her second book and is donating all proceeds to Liberia Plantation restoration efforts.
Manassas, a new book that gives a glimpse into life in post-Civil War Manassas through vintage post cards, tells surprising stories from the emerging town and about the creation of the Manassas National Battlefield Park. Only a decade before, early Manassas residents had been on opposing sides of a deadly battle. And yet they came together in the 1870s to build a town and a sense of community. Many of the book’s images exist only in post cards. Without these post cards, no visual record of many Manassas buildings, sites, and streetscapes would remain.
Week five has begun, so congratulations to all of those dedicated summer readers (infant-students entering 5th grade) who can now come into their branch and select a brand-new book for their remarkable efforts this summer.
This year’s Prince William Public Library System Explore Summer Reading program has been amazing with huge attendance at summer programs and many committed readers.

Investigators said the man who stabbed a custodian multiple times about 6 a.m. Wednesday at a rest stop on westbound Interstate 66 outside Manassas later committed suicide.
