Media and community members are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of the final phase of renovation at Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center. When completed in December 2017, the new façade will complement interior improvements already completed as part of Prince William Medical Center’s $38 million master facility project.

Burglary — At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2017, Manassas City Police responded to DC Pups, located at 9021 Center St 9021 Centreville Rd, for a report of a burglary. The reporting party told officers that sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Jan. 1, someone entered the business by breaking a window and stole six young, small-breed dogs. The puppies, valued altogether at $5,885, included two Maltese, one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, two Maltipoos, and one Cavachon. This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related this case or the whereabouts of the stolen puppies is encouraged to call Manassas City Police Department at 703.257.8000 or 9-1-1.

Zandra’s Taqueria once again invited the community to join in the “Warm Up the Community” clothing drive, held in conjunction with the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. The eatery collected more than 50 coats, along with numerous scarves, hats, socks and gloves during the drive, which is now in its third year.

After all the holiday festivities are over and the finery has lost its luster give your Christmas tree, wreath and other cut greenery another life as compost, mulch or habitat. Simply remove all ornaments, decorations, tinsel, nails and the tree stand and take the greenery to one of locations listed below to be recycled or repurposed.

Rarely does either of us (Lillie Jessie and Loree Williams) write about School Board matters but this constant misleading impression that certain members of the Prince William County School Board (SB) are turning away money offered to reduce overcrowding of our schools by the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) has forced us to speak out.
The fact is, Mrs. Jenine Lawson, of the Brentsville District and Mr. Pete Candland, of the Gainsville District have decided to give the school system approximately $21,000,000 million of your taxpayers’ money but only if $10.6 million of it is used to help fund a redesigned of the new 13th high school in Mrs. Lawson’s district. The cost of this newly redesigned school would be $160 million. By the way, this does not include millions of dollars in operating cost.
