Week Seven of the General Assembly brought some focus to the state’s budget situation and movement on a few important bills of the session.
On Tuesday we debated our respective budget amendments. The budgets are separated by a massive revenue gulf due to Medicaid. The House of Delegates’ budget included Medicaid Expansion with a work requirement. The Senate Budget did not.

Armed Robbery – On February 26 at 11:15AM, officers responded to Bellas Beauty Salon located at 8427 Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. Employees reported to police that an unknown male entered the store and approached the front counter. During the encounter, the suspect implied that he had a knife and demanded money. The suspect took money from one of the employees before fleeing the business on foot. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 responded to search for the suspect who was not located. The investigation continues.

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Interstate 95 southbound on-ramp from Courthouse Road in Stafford County next week to allow crews to finish work on the temporary ramp.

WOODBRIDGE – Route 1 traffic will be shifting onto new pavement Friday, March 2 and then Monday, March 5, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Threats on School Grounds – On February 26 at 11:00AM, a School Resource Officer received information of a potential threat of violence against a Prince William County Public School teacher at Patriot High School located at 10504 Kettle Run Rd in Nokesville (20181). The investigation revealed that two students, a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, communicated over the social media app “Snapchat” suggesting violence against a specific teacher at the school. The students also posted a picture of a suspected firearm that was later determined to be a BB gun. The officer subsequently located both students and quickly determined that the threat was not credible. Following the investigation, the officer obtained petitions for both students who were served and released back to the custody of a family member.
On March 24, Prince William County and the City of Manassas will host their annual History Symposium at the Old Manassas Courthouse.
This year’s theme is “Growing Roots” and topics will cover the diverse 300-year history of Prince William County and Manassas.
Prince William County School Board Chairman Ryan Sawyers today ended his bid for Virginia’s 1st Congressional Seat currently held by Rob Wittman.
The move comes a week after he called for the resignation of Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent Steven Walts after he was involved in a crash while driving a school division vehicle last fall.
Rescue crews wrapped up operations allowing for the northbound lanes of Route 17 at Hartwood Road in Stafford County to reopen about 8 a.m.
The ambulance involved in the crash was carrying a patient.
