MT. VERNON, Va.–A principal has apologized for placing a controversial ad inside of her high school’s yearbook.

Nardos King, who has been principal at Mt. Vernon High School in Fairfax County since 2006, placed an ad for her private “Body Magic” business, which she conducts outside of school, on a page of the 2010 yearbook, according to Fairfax school officials.

A 30-year-old man was sitting in his car in the parking lot of a 7 Eleven, at 3623 Jeff Davis Highway near Boswell’s Corner at 2:30 a.m. Friday, waiting for a friend when a man walked up and pointed a gun at his head.

The gunman ordered the victim out of his car as and two other males who were with him looked on, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – It appears one man was frustrated with jail officials and he took it out on their cars.

A 27-year-old man who had just been released from jail sometime after 9 a.m. Friday walked out of the detention center and then jumped on top of jail officials’ cars, authorities say.


FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – Election season is coming early in portions of Fairfax and Prince William counties as Democratic Rep. Gerrald E. “Gerry” Connolly and his Republican opponent Keith Fimian both issued email statements to their campaign supporters.

Connolly says his campaign will “be sprinting towards the finish line” this summer while many other politicians who are running for reelection this fall are taking some time off. (more…)


Brian Van Hoven says he knew someone was going to get knocked out when he last stepped into the ring. He’s glad it wasn’t him.

The 36-year-old mixed martial arts fighter from Woodbridge, weighing 155 pounds and standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, traveled to Orlando, Fla. three weeks ago and knocked out his opponent, Vinnie Samero, one minute and 55 seconds into the fight.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. – The Potomac Community Library in Woodbridge will celebrate turning 35 in September, and they library’s staff have planned a series of events to commemorate the birthday.

WOODBRIDGE, Va.–One man became the victim of an apparent lightning strike Sunday.

The 47-year-old man was boating with some friends off Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge, and was floating in the waters of the Potomac River when a bolt of lightning stuck the water, injuring him, said Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jim McAllister. (more…)


Though power outages were rampant across Northern Virginia following Sunday afternoon’s severe thunderstorms, the Mt. Vernon outage was confined to an area off U.S. 1, on Buckman and Russell roads.

The storms that knocked out power in the area rolled through between 4 and 6 p.m. Sunday, but it wasn’t until 11:47 a.m. Monday that crews had the electricity back on to the affected 588 customers in Mt. Vernon, said Dominion Virginia Power spokeswoman Le Ha Anderson.
