Correction: Police said the driver of a white box truck in which investigators believe struck a pedestrian who died this morning at a commuter lot on Va. 234 in Dumfries may have done so without knowing he struck the victim. Police are still looking for the driver, whom  they believe could provide investigators more information on the crash.

Update 11: 20 a.m. – Police said Va. 234 near Dumfries has been reopened in both directions following a pedestrian being struck and killed there this morning.


Lake Ridge, Va. –– Police said one man resisted arrest Tuesday, got into a scuffle with police  and was later found to have narcotics on him.

Officers stopped a car in the area of Plymouth Court and Mayflower Drive, off Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge, about 7:52 p.m.


Prince William

Woodbridge, Va. –– A chili cook off will be held, and a series of free classes will be offered next month at Woodbridge Middle School.

The Chili Cook Off will be held for parents, friends, and family of students and faculty from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Stafford, Va. –– Stafford County’s courthouse complex is one step closer to a new addition.

The county’s board of supervisors approved a $266,000 contract for the design of the new 11,000 square foot, $3.3 million courthouse annex, which will be located next to the courthouse and county administration offices in Stafford.


Fairfax County, Va. –– Several Fairfax County Police officers were honored last week, including two who helped recover thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, police said.

Officers Christopher Burbrink and Ryan Lazisky won Officer of the Year awards on Oct. 1, after they investigated a string of crimes that occurred around the Springfield Mall, at an Ulta cosmetics store – where $7,000 worth of merchandise was stolen – as well as a Home Depot store on Franconia Road, said Fairfax County police spokesman Richard Henry. VDOT hosted the event to allow citizens to view documents, maps, drawings, and reports that comprise the EA for the Interstate 95 HOT Lanes corridor.

The opportunity session was listed on the VDOT web site and public notices have been published in area newspapers.


Prince William County, Va. –– A Prince William County Government employee was arrested Monday on charges of assault and battery, police said.

Police say the 47-year-old male victim from Manassas said he and the female suspect were involved in an argument which escalated at 6:27 p.m. Monday, in the 8100 block of Porter Ridge Lane in the Prince William County section of Manassas.
