The Rally to Restore Sanity and or Fear wrapped up on the National Mall at 3 p.m.
Fairfax County, Va. –– Virginia transportation officials Friday opened a fourth lane on Interstate 95 south in Fairfax County prior to the start of the afternoon rush hour.
The newly-constructed lane runs about five miles, between Fairfax County Parkway and U.S. 1 just before Woodbridge, and is part of the $123 million effort to widen the highway to ten lanes between the parkway and the Occoquan River. (more…)

Woodbridge, Va. –– A string of volunteers showed up to clean up the winter shelter on Potomac Mills Road.
Volunteers spent the morning picking up trash consisting of glass bottles, cans, and other recyclables from the wooded directly behind the shelter, including a heavily littered creek bed.
North Stafford –– A new center for technology and education may be coming to Boswells Corner’s expanding Quantico Corporate Center.
Stafford County officials , University of Mary Washington, George Mason University and Germanna Community College officials today all signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the possibility of building a new technology education center on Corporate Drive.
Virginia transportation officials say motorists have become used to Harrell Road closing when it rains because of a poor drainage system at a culvert where the railroad passes over the road.
Water ponds on the roadway causing drivers to find another way around the water, officials said. (more…)

Virginia State Police on Thursday morning said the victim in Wednesday night’s fatal crash on Interstate 95 was 20-year-old Breauna Woolen, of Woodbridge.
