Dale City, Va. –– A man was shot in the foot this morning in Dale City.
Two men had been arguing when the shooting occurred, and then one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other in the foot, according to News & Messenger.
The shooting happened about 7:30 a.m., and police have the alleged shooter in custody.
Lake Ridge, Va. –– A man with a baseball bat who police say climbed through the drive through window of a Dunkin Donuts, a shooting into a home and a home break in kept officers in Woodbridge busy this week.
At 1:55 a.m. Thursday, an employee at the doughnut restaurant on Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge told police he saw a man with a walk up to the window.
That employee ran from the window to the parking lot, and the man then climbed in, took an undisclosed amount of cash, and then fled the scene with two other men who were waiting outside in a car, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
Police said two of the men were wearing ski masks, black jackets and blue latex gloves. A witness could not provide a description for the third man, police said. Read More

The unmanned marked police car was parked last month on Pohick Road, near the overpass of Interstate 95, as a part of a special traffic study.

Woodbridge, Va. –– Passengers onboard a stopped Virginia Railway Express have been told to get off at on the far track at the Rippon station.
VRE’s Fredericksburg line train had to work its way around a stalled freight train south of Woodbridge Thursday afternoon, said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.
The train left Union Station in Washington at 4:40 p.m.
An earlier version of this story reported passengers were being forced off of the train at VRE’s Rippon station, which was incorrect.
Stafford County, Va. –– Officials in Stafford County spent the summer cracking down on illegal gang activity, netting more than 51 felony, and 15 misdemeanor arrest warrants and petitions.
The county’s sheriff’s department so far has arrested 13 juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17-years-old, and six adults, on charges stemming from robberies, assaults by mob, brandishing firearms and gang participation, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The crackdown comes as sheriff’s deputies have noted an increase in gang activity over the past year. In response to the increase, a special sheriff’s office unit was created to deal with the problem.

Stafford, Va. –– Stafford County officials want residents to know their offices are open for business Monday.
Despite the Columbus Day holiday, all county offices and departments will be open regular business hours.
The landfill will also be open during regular business hours, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Many of you reading this are familiar with my day to day adventures with my 13-year-old son. As most kids his age, he has many sides and layers to the person he is becoming. It is both very exciting and scary to witness.
Just recently we were talking about the growing number of teen suicides. Many of these suicides are teens who were being bullied for being gay. As my son finds his own voice and morals in this world, this matter in particular bothered me a great deal – the fact of any child feeling so broken that they resort to taking their own life immediately pulls at my heartstrings.

Update 3:30 p.m. – Murder victim identified
Police now say it was a domestic dispute the led to the death of a Falls Church woman Wednesday night in a Springfield restaurant.
Tieu L. Nguyet, 37, of 3235 Kenny Drive was killed in a knife attack, said Fairfax County police.
She died after she suffered trauma to her upper body.
Police have charged 40-year-old Lam Dang, of 6801 Floyd Avenue in Springfield, with murder in connection to her death. Read More

Washington –– Tensions rose Tuesday afternoon when Lake Ridge commuters were told they could no longer slug from a busy street in Downtown Washington.
About 15 slugs – commuters who ride in cars of three or more passengers so they can use High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on Interstate 95 and 395 – were handed fliers from the Washington, D.C. Department of Transportation, stating they could no longer stand and wait to be picked up on 14th Street, between H Street and New York Avenue.
The slug line will be relocated one block over, to the less-congested 15th Street, the flier stated.
The change, which officials say will be a two-week trial as they look to see if traffic flow on 14th Street improves without drivers stopping to pick up slugs, came as a surprise for many who now fear they’ll be left without a ride home. Read More
Dumfries, Va. –– One man fired a gun at a Dumfries shopping center on Tuesday, police said.
Witnesses called police to report someone had opened fire at Fortuna Center Plaza, in front of the Shoppers Food Warehouse at 4:33 p.m., said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
No one was injured, but a preliminary investigation found that two men had been driving around the parking lot of the shopping plaza when one jumped out of the car, and then fired the gun. Read More
