Fort Belvoir, Va. –– Soldiers gathered at Woodlawn Chapel on Friday to honor Sgt. Zaniah Creamer.

She was killed last week in Afghanistan when a bomb exploded.

Stafford County, Va. –– Investigators in Stafford County want to know who is walking into Walmart stores and walking out with loads of stolen goods.

Three Walmart stores in the county, including one on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) in North Stafford, have been hit several times since early December.

A man who appears to be in his late 30s or early 40s has been captured on security cameras taking items like computers, stereos and video games, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Expanding ridership on Virginia’s only commuter railroad has caused crowding, and forced rail officials to look for ways to extend the length of trains.

Virginia Railway Express’ CEO Dale Zehner in an email to riders Thursday stated ridership on the two-line commuter rail system has reached nearly 20,000 passengers on its busiest days – 10 of which were in October.

Ft. Belvoir, Va. –– Members of the U.S. Army will gather Friday to remember a soldier who served her country in Afghanistan, and her community at Ft. Belvoir.

A memorial service for 28-year-old Sgt. Zaniah Creamer will be held at the Woodlawn Chapel from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., remembering the military police officer who was killed last week when a bomb exploded.

Creamer handled bomb-sniffing dogs and was killed when one exploded. Her animal survived the blast, said a base official.

She served in the Army for six years and was part of her unit at Ft. Belvoir since October 2009, said Ft. Belvoir spokeswoman Jacqueline Leeker.

This was Creamer’s third tour duty while in the Army.

Lorton, Va. –– Just who will own the Waste-to-Energy facility in Lorton? County taxpayers or a private company?

That’s what Fairfax County Supervisor Gerry Hyland will discuss at a meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday January 27, at South County Secondary School in Lorton.

Fairfax County, Va. –– Virginia’s first hydraulic hybrid trash truck is rolling in Fairfax County.

The $35,000 truck was purchased with federal grant money and is expected to save up to six percent in fuel and maintenance costs.

County officials say trash trucks on average stop and start 800 times per day during their collection runs. This truck uses a hydraulic pump that was installed along the truck’s drive shaft that helps with its acceleration, will help reduce its fuel consumption, reduce emissions and heat generated when the brakes are applied.
