
Woodbridge, Va. –– A new documentary film that will be shown tonight in Woodbridge aims to show residents how to respond to demands from police.
The docudrama “10 Rules for Dealing with Police” will be screened at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge campus.
The film was produced by Washington non-profit Flex Your Rights, and aims to better help residents understand their constitutional rights, according to information posted to the web by the college. Read More
Woodbridge, Va. –– Police say they arrested a man who carjacked a woman in Woodbridge early Monday.
It’s one of three arrests in as many separate incidents that took place during the past two days.

Stafford County, Va. -- It’s time to put on those running and walking shoes to help children with disabilities.
The Holliann Grace Center for Children with Disabilities in will hold its first annual Deputy Dash 5K Run / Run and One-Mile Run.
The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. March 20, at Cannon Ridge Golf Club in southern Stafford County. The 5K run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the one-mile fun run starts at 9:30 a.m.

Women are more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer, and an area hospital has some pointers on how to live healthier to avoid the risk.
In the recent blog entry in Sentara Potomac Hospital’s blog, Maureen Deutermann, R.N. MSN says heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S., age 20 or over. Another statistic: One in 30 women die from breast cancer, compared to the one in three who die from heart cancer.
Deutermann also urged women to stop smoking cigarettes, and wrote about a stop-smoking support group that meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the hospital in Woodbridge, Nicotine Anonymous.

A former pastor at a Woodbridge church will be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.
Jason Roy Bolton plead guilty to the charge in October.
He will be sentenced in a Prince William County courtroom at 1:30 p.m., according to court records.
Bolton was a pastor at Potomac Crest Baptist Church in Woodbridge.

Stafford, Va. –– Officials want to know what you think about plans for future urban growth in Stafford County.
Two public workshops will be held to discuss planned Urban Development Areas in the county, the first at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Stafford, at the building formerly used by Stafford Rescue Station 1 at 2147 Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) at 7 p.m., next to the county’s administration center.
The second will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky Run Elementary School at 95 Reservoir Road in Stafford.

Woodbridge, Va. –– An anonymous donor wants to help a Woodbridge family add an addition to their home that will benefit thier wounded warrior.
Joshua Himan, a Marine who was paralyzed from the chest down when the vehicle he was riding in hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2009, needs a place to stay when he is released from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. A more accessible bathroom, wider hallways and doorways and a master suite for Himan would make it easier for his mother, Patricia, who quit her job to care for her son -once he’s home.
The anonymous donor has offered to match all donations up to $15,000 through January 31.
“This generous offer comes as we are trying to secure the last $40,000 to complete the Himan family project,’ said Jacob Koch, President of the NoVA Fuller Center. “Fifteen thousand will turn into $30,000 on the spot, which is the bulk of what we need.” Read More

She was killed last week in Afghanistan when a bomb exploded.
Stafford County, Va. –– Investigators in Stafford County want to know who is walking into Walmart stores and walking out with loads of stolen goods.
Three Walmart stores in the county, including one on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) in North Stafford, have been hit several times since early December.
A man who appears to be in his late 30s or early 40s has been captured on security cameras taking items like computers, stereos and video games, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
