The school system’s summer job fair will be held Tuesday at Freedom High School at 15201 Neabsco Mills Road in Woodbridge, where students will be interviewed for teacher and office assistant positions that will open later this year during the schools’ summer remedial program.

Those who are hired will be paid $7.50 per hour and work with children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Statistics from the Virginia Employment Commission show Stafford County grew 55 percent between the first quarter 2000 and third quarter 2010, increasing the number of jobs in the county from 23,262 to 36,121 during those 10 years.

During that same time period, Fredericksburg grew by only 9 percent, Spotsylvania County by 31 percent and King George County by 9 percent.


With light snow in the forecast, over 800 people grabbed their coats and their kites to enjoy an early spring festival at Gunston Hall on Saturday.

Each spring, the Friends of Gunston Hall host a kite festival to support the historic site’s education fund.  Susan Blankenship, Development Program Coordinator, says that the local community have come to expect a great program facilitated by dedicated volunteers who come as period actors.
