Kinston (20-23) cashed in on Potomac’s sloppiness in the first inning. A pair of leadoff walks from Cameron Selik burned the Nationals when Jeremie Tice blasted a home run over the left field wall to give the K-Tribe a 3-0 edge.

Potomac was silenced by emergency starter Toru Murata for the better part of four innings; lefthanded prospect Drew Pomeranz was a late scratched for undisclosed reasons. The Nationals (18-25) finally got a rally going in the fourth when they loaded the bases with two outs. But Francisco Jimenez (1-0) came on in relief of Murata and got Sandy Leon to ground out to escape the jam.

Dale City Sport and Health Club’s second annual block party to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital had people’s hearts pumping on Saturday.

Rommel Bradley, manager, said that the event shows “We’re about taking care of people.  This isn’t just a health club, we’re about raising awareness, not just fitness.”

Woodbridge, Va. –– The Potomac Nationals organization on Monday had yet to hear back from Washington Redskins quarterback, Donovan McNabb.

The Minor League Baseball team on Friday made an offer to the veteran football player, whose future with Washington’s football team has long been in question, to come play or even work out with the team.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued Monday until 6 p.m. for the Potomac Communities, as forecasters said strong storms could move into the region, some of which may contain damaging winds and hail.

Rising temperatures into the mid 80s will also support thunderstorms, much like we saw last week.

The power-hitting first baseman launched his 8th homer of the season in a five-run sixth for the P-Nats. Shortstop Jose Lozada and right fielder Destin Hood both led off the inning with doubles, getting Potomac on the board for the first time in the game. After a J.P. Ramirez strikeout, Souza crunched a two-run shot that went more than 400 feet. It went just to the left of straight-away center, which is label as 390 feet at City Stadium. It gave Souza his league-leading 31st and 32nd RBI.

A walk from Brian Peacock (his second of the day) forced Hillcats manager Luis Salazar to go to the bullpen to replace starter Cory Rasmus. The former supplemental first round draft had a strong afternoon until the sixth. He had not allowed a run and struck out six P-Nats. But when Potomac started to get to him, Salazar called on Dan Jurik.
