The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, the public agency that operates the commuter bus service from Prince William County to points in Northern Virginia and Washington, says 20 percent of their routes have long suffered from overcrowding –– a result of higher gas prices and congress’ decision to extend the $230 employer-sponsored commuter benefit for federal employees through 2011.

PRTC commissioners are expected to vote on the plan Thursday night.

Riders told the Washington Examiner they notified the station’s management about the feces, but it remained spattered across the concrete for the next two days.

The commuter railroad added this isn’t the VRE only station in which human feces has been found.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Stafford County and points south until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

At 5 p.m., doppler radar indicated a large area of rain moving from west to east that could affect the Potomac Communities before many of the fireworks shows in the region are set to begin at 9 pm.

The global engineering firm he was working for recently went through a second round of downsizing, and on Friday Chris Royse announced to his Facebook faithful he’ll now be campaigning full time.

“This is good news for the campaign but a rough patch for my family as I search for a new job. We believe, however, everything happens for a reason,” said Royse.

Mac McQuown, of Stafford, is in training for his next big adventure that will take him from the site of the World Trade Center in New York City to the capitals of all of the lower 48 states. He departs on September 11, 2011, exactly 10 years after the terrorist attacks on the trade center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.

For the past few months, he’s been walking up and down Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) carrying a large U.S. Flag.

The ball clubs will play the remainder of Sunday’s game beginning at 5 p.m. and then play a seven-inning nightcap 30 minutes after the completion of Sunday’s suspended game.

The Blue Rocks jumped out to an early lead on Sunday with three runs off Potomac starter Danny Rosenbaum. Whit Merrifield led off the game with a triple to the wall in centerfield. After Carlo Testa popped out to first base, Nick Van Stratten singled Merrifield home. The big blow in the inning came when John Whittleman rocked a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right to make it 3-0 Rocks.

The unidentified storm victim was riding his bicycle along the C&O Canal in Montgomery County, Md. and was struck by a tree, reports the Washington Post.

Closer to home, about 600 Dominion Virginia customers in the Brooke and Widewater areas of Stafford County had their power knocked out. About 300 Dominion customers in the Dumfries area lost their power.

Woodbridge ,Va. –– The P-Nats dropped the series finale with the Dash 7-2 on Friday night at Pfitnzer Stadium. Despite the loss, Potomac took two out of three from Winston-Salem to win the set.

Nationals starter Cameron Selik had a bookend type of night. The righty struggled early and late during his outing, but was able to throw well in between. From the second through fifth inning, Selik didn’t give up a run and only allowed three hits.
