A the two men, along with another, were riding inside a Chevrolet Impala that was being pursued by police when the car pulled into a rest stop along Interstate 95 north in Dale City, weaved through the parking lot and then made an attempt to get back onto the highway. A Chevrolet Impala being pursued by Virginia State Police was struck by a tractor-trailer about 3:30 p.m. at a rest stop along northbound Interstate 95 on Friday. One person had to be extricated from the car while two other occupants were able to escape the wreckage. Problem is, the car was reported by Fredericksburg police earlier that afternoon to have been involved in a larceny in that city, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

When police issued a “be on the look out” for the car, a state trooper spotted the vehicle headed north on I-95 in Stafford County. He followed the car with lights and sirens activated to Dale City, where the Impala pulled into the rest stop, sped through the parking lot and then tried to get back onto the highway.

This week our Nation honors its veterans with a poignant holiday. Originally called “Armistice Day,” it marked the first anniversary of the armistice that effectively ended combat on the Western Front in World War I. At the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month the artillery fell silent, the biplanes ceased their bombing missions, and the trenches stopped being death traps for the soldiers that inhabited them.

We lost over 117,000 U.S. servicemen in that war. The total number of deaths (both military and civilian) for the Allies in that conflict was over 9 million. The central powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire which is now modern day Turkey) lost over seven million. While both France and Germany lost about four percent of their population in that conflict, some other nations lost a considerably greater proportion of their countrymen. Romania lost nine percent, the Ottoman Empire almost 14 percent, and Serbia an astounding 16 percent of their populations.
