WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William police Lt. Col. Barry Barnard has been named Acting Chief of the department.
The announcement comes a week after longtime Chief Charlie T. Deane announced his retirement from the force. Deane is one of the longest-serving police chiefs in the nation, holding the position since 2008. More now from a county press release:
MANASSAS, Va. — Mitt Romney will appear in Manassas on Saturday will Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell.
Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, will make stops in Norfolk, and Ashland outside Richmond, prior to rallying crowds in Old Town Manassas.

WOODBRIDGE, Va.– Congressman Gerry Connolly was in Woodbridge on Wednesday to celebrate National Community Health Center Week.
Appearing at the Greater Prince William Health Center in Woodbridge, a facility just off Prince William Parkway, run by Frank Principi who also doubles at the Prince William Woodbridge District Magisterial Supervisor, the congressman was joined by community members and children from the Prince William Boys and Girls Clubs who came for free health screenings, food, and fun.
NORTH STAFFORD, Va. – Residents came to Stafford Marketplace off Va. 610 in North Stafford on Tuesday night to celebrate the county’s largest National Night Out celebration to date.
The annual celebration is designed to get neighbors out of their homes, meeting others, and tasking a stand against crime and illegal drug use.
For most people, living close to work means a shorter commute. Unless, that is, you live anywhere in the National Capital Region.
When I purchased my first home earlier this summer, I considered the distance between home and work. Initially, I had been looking for homes outside of Prince William County, further north along Interstate 95, where I could ride the Metro to work every day. However, considering my utter hatred for the Metro system, it’s probably best that I’m not stuck riding the train every day.
NORTH STAFFORD, Va. – The land at two homes deemed unlivable following a landslide will be repaired.
The affected homes are at 116 and 118 Brush Everard Court in North Stafford’s Austin Ridge neighborhood where, following drenching rainstorms that hampered the area in September, the homes’ backyards which sit on a slope began to fall away. County officials deemed the houses uninhabitable, unsuccessfully tried to bring the land developer into the repair process, and then this week announced $150,000 in funds that will be used to repair the damage.
With a four-way tie for second place in the 13 to 17-year-old division, three great games were played last night.
The Grizzlies secured their spot with a victory over the first place Nuggets. The team fought hard and picked up some momentum and is now heading into their first playoff game this Monday. There they will try to advance to the championship as the number two seed in the playoff bracket.
