MANASSAS, Va. — On Arbor Day, April 26, the third-graders at West Gate Elementary School in Prince William County had a chance to get their hands dirty and plant some trees. It was all part of Dominion Virginia Power’s environmental program Project Plant It!, a fun and educational way to help the kids learn about trees and the environment.

QUANTICO, Va. — The scene is now clear, and what officials at Quantico thought was a suspicious white powdery substance at the town’s post office turned out to be nothing.

A HAZMAT team called to the post office was cleared at 9:40 a.m., according to a base spokesman. The post office was closed about 10 a.m. today after a suspicious substance was found, according to base officials.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – A coal train derailed on a secondary track in Stafford County about 3 p.m.

Fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle said no one was injured, and added the train was traveling on a secondary track and the derailment would not impact service on either Virginia Railway Express commuter trains or Amtrak.

DALE CITY, Va. — With the help of a neighbor, the stolen property of a woman who was away from her home on vacation has been recovered by police.

The burglary victim who lives in the 13300 block of Kerrydale Road in Dale City called police April 19 after returning home from a trip. After she was away for four days, the woman told police jewelry, a game system, laptop, and firearm were all missing from her home.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Police were called to a town home community in Woodbridge where they arrested a woman they said falsely called 911.

The caller told police she rents a room in a home in the 13000 block of Carolyn Forest Drive and could hear voices in a nearby basement. Apparently, the woman told police a burglary was in progress, but when officers arrived they found a dispute between the tenant and a landlord taking place, according to police reports.
