A packed theater and I saw Director Gore Verbinski’s (The Pirates of the Caribbean) take on the 1930s icon of American Justice. Since the story comes with its own catch phrases and kooky sidekick, this seemed like a perfect fit.
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — The 4th of July will be celebrated at Pratt Park in southern Stafford County this year.
Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m., and the festival will include the Quantico Marine Corps Band, the University of Mary Washington’s Philharmonic, and the cast of Les Miserables at the Riverside Center. It’ll also feature music, food, and children’s games.

With 130 groups and organizations marching in this year’s event, it’s one of the largest 4th of July Parades in Virginia.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — It appears someone is posing as the daughter of the owner of a house listed for rent in the Dumfries area, police said.
A Maryland woman responded to an ad on Craigslist on Saturday. She met with a woman who said she was the daughter of the owner of the house, and then the victim gave the stranger more than $1,700 — enough for the security deposit and first month’s rent, police said.
MANASSAS, Va. — Two men distracted an employee of a cell phone store, and then a third took an iPad right off the victim’s desk.
That’s how a heist went down at a Verizon cell phone store on Market Circle near Prince William Parkway in Manassas, police said.

Richard L. Anderson, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from Woodbridge, addressed select high school students attending the 71st session of American Legion Boys State of Virginia held at Radford University.
Delegate Rich Anderson (R-51), participating for his fourth consecutive time as an instructor in the Boys State program, spoke on “Virginia Government – Origins to Today.” He described the history and legislative process of the Virginia General Assembly including how a bill becomes law. Anderson also discussed his duties and challenges as a state Delegate along with various current policy and political issues facing state government in Virginia. He answered several questions from the Boys State citizens. Anderson also taught an afternoon session entitled “Running for Public Office.”
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Woodbridge Senior High School’s Choral Department presented their annual Spring Show last month.
Aside from the spectacular costumes and choreography, the Choral Department showed off their talented vocalists as they sang hit songs from Guys and Dolls, Beauty and the Beast, All That Jazz, Les Misérables and Hairspray.
QUANTICO, Va. — About a year ago, Petty Officer 2nd Class Joseph Jedding, a religious program specialist at Marine Corps Base Quantico, was trying to come up with a different kind of community outreach event. He had just arrived at the base.
“I wanted to get away from the norm of homeless shelters and animal shelters,” he said. The Special Olympics came to mind, as he has an aunt with Down syndrome who has participated in the games, so he sent out a few exploratory emails.
