RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia’s multibillion-dollar transportation funding package will put a heavier burden on lower-income households than on more affluent families, according to a Richmond-based think tank.

MANASSAS, Va. — On Saturday May 4, Crossroads Realty, PWC Entertainment and other area vendors will hold a special concert at the Olde Town Sports Pub. The Rock Show, a Journey tribute band, and the Rick Sickman Band will play hits songs from the 1980s. Proceeds from the show will go to benefit Operation Renewed Hope an organization that helps homeless veterans.
MANASSAS, Va. – The man who once oversaw Manassas’ government will lead it once more.
Larry Hughes will take over as interim City Manager at the end of May, the Manassas City Council announced tonight.
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – A woman was found suffering fatal gunshot wounds on Friday.
Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called to a home at 59 Alderman Drive in a rural portion of Stafford County near the Lake Arrowhead subdivision at 2:42 p.m. Friday where they found the victim. The woman was taken to a local hospital Friday where she was pronounced dead.
DUMFIRES, Va. — Jennifer Stringfellow likes Dumfries and its older houses. She ought to, as she is the head of the town’s Architectural Review Board (ARB), a volunteer commission charged with overseeing development, changes, and preserving the town’s historic district that includes an old street grid, something that resembles Old Town Alexandria’s layout.
The small town, Virginia’s oldest continuously charted town of 5,000 residents, wasn’t always known for its busy U.S. 1. When it was founded in 1749 it was one of the nation’s largest deep water ports, and water flowed right up to present day Main Street and the street grid. Many of the old homes and buildings are no longer there, but the Weems-Botts House, Williams Ordinary, the Anderson House that sits about a block away from the Weems-Botts House, Town Hall, and homes that are more than 50-years-old are all in the district.

I notice a lot of Government Agencies at all levels have “Centers of Excellence” to ensure the highest standards of service. I’ve been involved in a few over the years, and I have matured my thinking to realize that centers devoted to driving up the size, cost, and complexity of government are perhaps not such a great idea.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – Stafford County was slammed hard tonight by a thunderstorm packing high winds, lightning, and heavy rain. One house fire, several downed limbs and power lines, some street closures, and numerous power outages are blamed on the storm.
