As part of the Manassas Civil War Weekend on Aug. 23-25, the Manassas Museum will offer talks from well-known speakers on Civil War topics. Below is a list of speakers and topics to be featured free on the lawn of the Manassas Museum. 

Featured speaker and internationally-known Civil War Expert James “Bud” Robertson will speak on Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. about, Stonewall Jackson, Death and Birth of a Legend. On Aug. 25 at 11 a.m., Robertson will speak about his newest book, The Untold Civil War.

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) will host a job fair at its administrative office in Oakton to fill five full-time Health Navigator positions on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Candidates with a background or interest in health and/or social services are encouraged to attend.

At 9:30 and 11:00 a.m., the job fair will feature informational sessions to inform interested candidates about the important role of the Health Navigator under the Affordable Care Act. Starting Oct. 1, the Health Care Marketplace will be available to the public, allowing access to affordable health care options. Health Navigators will be responsible for assisting Northern Virginia consumers in the Health Insurance Marketplace as part of the Affordable Care Act.

WOODBRIGDE, Va. — Virginia Transportation Secretary Sean Connaughton is coming to Woodbridge to talk about the hotly-debated Bi-County Parkway.

The secretary, who once led the Prince William County Board of Supervisors as its chairman, will address the Board at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

MANASSAS, Va. — Former marine and current Prince William County teacher Atif Qarni officially opened his campaign office in Manassas in the eastern part of the 13th district on Saturday. Located In the new Precise Auto Store at 7614 Centreville Rd, Manassas, Qarni was joined by over 60 friends, family, supporters, and Democratic Nominee for Attorney General Senator Mark Herring and Democratic House Chair Delegate Mark Sickles.

“I want to take my record of service as a Marine and my experience as a teacher to be a strong representative for the district that actually focuses on the issues that affect us every day like creating good paying jobs, reducing traffic and congestion and making sure our schools are the best they can be,” said Qarni.


Obituaries

Mary Elizabeth Hennage, 85, wife of the late William H. Hennage, of Woodbridge, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Envoy Nursing Home. She was born September 3, 1927 in Lincoln, IL to the late John Boyd, Sr. and Alma Moss Boyd.

Mrs. Hennage retired from the Federal Government in 1988 as was a member of NAARFE and Society of Military Comptrollers.
